HPA - Academy Football Competition
Two squads of Y3/Y4 footballers represented HPA at a football tournament held at University Academy Holbeach.
On a nippy but dry Tuesday morning 2 squads from HPA joined another 8 squads from mostly schools in the Market Deeping and Bourne area for the Year 3/Year 4 mixed football competition.
The 10 squads were placed in 2 groups of 5. Each team played their 4 group matches which were completed just after lunch. Teams then played off in knockout matches to decide their overall placings and winners. HPA A Team won 2 of their 4 group matches to finish 3rd in their group and then lost their knockout match to finish 6th overall. They were unlucky to lose one of their matches as they had more chances to score than their opponents but unfortunately couldn't find the net! The HPA B team had hoped to be playing in a more 'fun' series of matches but as no other teams entered on this basis had to play in a competitive format and struggled against very strong opposition. They lost all their matches to finish 10th overall but to their credit never lost their enthusiasm for wanting to play and were rewarded in their knockout match by scoring their only goal.
Both squads displayed all the School Games values attributed to this competition - teamwork, honesty, perseverance and didn't stop talking about their experiences on the walk back to school!! Well done!!
Many thanks to Rupert Gibson (SGO) for running the event and well done to the UAH Sports Leaders who refereed the matches.
