HPA - Parliament Week

This week (6/11/23 - 10/11/23) has been Parliament Week.  The children across the academy have used this as an opportunity to further embed the Fundamental British Value of democracy.  Across Early Years they have used a voting system to choose their daily story and then begun to discuss and debate which would be better and why.

Children across key stage 1 have done a virtual tour of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.  They have learned about MP's and their role and compared this to when we vote to elect our Academy Council representatives.  They then used their debating skills thinking about what they liked and then debating with a partner which was better and why - other children then had to make a decision on which was best based on the argument presented.  These were recorded on Vocaroo with a QR code generated to share.

Across Key Stage 2 the children discussed the government, members of parliament and their roles.  They compared this with their roles on Academy Council and the voting system employed to elect.  The children also thought through manifestos and what sort of aspects they would include in a manifesto to improve aspects of the academy and why it would be important to keep these promises made.
